The monitoring station on North Huon Road measures the concentration of particulates in the air.
The station is equipped with sensitive analysis probes that measure what is known as PM10 that is particles that are sub 10 micron.
A range of activities generates these particles. Of particular interest to Newood Huon is to establish a baseline of current PM10 to allow comparisons to be made once the boilers start to operate at the Huon wood centre.
The modelling undertaken in the DPEMP suggested that there will not be a significant change in particulate concentration.
However, the presence of inversion layers means that a test of potentially entrapped particulates falling out downstream needs to be monitored.
