Site Management - Environmental Health & safety
Newood Huon is committed to effective environmental management in all areas of the Company’s business. It is working to achieve best practice in managing the environmental and social impacts of its operations.

Work has commenced on an environment, health and safety management system for the Huon wood centre. This system will be developed in consultation with the Community Consultative Committee. As the system is formalised copies of the various sections will be published on this webpage.

Sustainability

Newood Huon is committed to sustainable development. The World Commission on Environment and Development (Brundtland Commission) defined sustainable development as:

“Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (1987)

The Huon wood centre is critically dependant on sustainable forest management to provide the raw material for its operations. Forestry Tasmania as a major supplier to the Huon wood centre provides regular reports on the sustainability of its operations. These are found on the sustainable forest management brochure. Newood Huon also needs to meet its own sustainability goals through management of flora, fauna and ecosystems and is committed to community consultation and support.

Sustainability involves a wide range of activities across the triple bottom line – social, environmental and financial performance.
